2020 Grant Recipients

Professor Guobing Chen works as Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine, Jinan University, Director of the Institute Geriatric Immunology, and Director of the Joint Laboratory on Geroscience in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. He got a Ph.D. degree from Australian National University and worked as a postdoctoral fellow and Assistant Researcher at the National Institute on Aging (NIA), NIH, USA. In Sep 2017, he established his independent laboratory at the Jinan University, China, mainly engaged in T-cell immunomics, geriatric immunology, and neuroimmunology research. He is responsible for a number of scientific research projects, including the Erma and Paul Milstein Special Talent Fund for Elderly Health of the Milstein Asian American Medical Foundation, the Emergency Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the NSFC-Guangdong Joint Fund Key Project, and the National Key Research and Development Program of China (NCRP) on "Active Health and Technological Responses to Aging". He is currently a member of the Committee on Basic Medicine of Aging of the Chinese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, a Committee of the Systems Biology Committee of the Chinese Society of Pathophysiology, a Chair of the Geriatric Immunology Committee of the Guangdong Geriatrics Society, an Executive Committee of the Guangdong Immunology Society, a member of the Norwegian Centre on Healthy Ageing Network, a member of the American Society of Immunology, a member of the American Geriatrics Society, and an associate editor of Frontier in Aging, the Guest Editor of Frontier in Immunology, Journal of Immunology Research and Journal of Leukocyte Biology.

Zuyun Liu, Ph.D., Research Professor (Principal Investigator), School of Public Health, and the Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Dr. Liu received his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University in 2011 and his Ph.D. from Fudan University (Supervisors: Li Jin, member of the Chinese Academy of Science; Xiaofeng Wang, professor) in 2016. He was then supported by the Brown–Coxe Fellowship from Yale School of Medicine in 2016 (10/year worldwide) and completed his postdoctoral training there with Professors Thomas Gill, Heather Allore, and Morgan Levine. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on gerontology (molecular epidemiology of aging). He has been using multidisciplinary and omics-based approaches to develop/refine aging measures and conduct application research. Dr. Liu has published nearly 40 scientific reports, including 28 articles as the first author (including co-authors), in respective journals in relevant fields such as public health (PLoS Medicine, BMC Medicine), epidemiology (int J Epidemiol), and gerontology (Aging Cell, J Gerontol A Biol SCI Med SCI). Dr. Liu has been invited to give a number of presentations at conferences and/or workshops such as the Fourth Annual Glenn Foundation Symposium on the Biology of Aging, the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting, and the Population Association of America (PAA) Annual Meeting. The paper on Phenotypic Age by Dr. Liu and colleagues (Liu Z, et al. PLoS Medicine.) in 2018 has received considerable media coverage (e.g., the Guardian and Yahoo News). In 2019, the paper by Dr. Liu and colleagues (Liu Z, et al. Plos Medicine.) was awarded as the Interdisciplinary Best Paper at the Gerontological Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting (one per year).

Dr. Wei Li is a professor and doctoral mentor of the Department of Dermatology in Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, and is also the Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Institute of Dermatology. Dr. Li pursues in clinical and basic research on inflammatory and allergic skin diseases, mainly focusing on the skin/gut microbiome in atopic dermatitis, skin regional immune responses in atopic dermatitis, and neuro-immune mechanism in inflammatory skin diseases. He has acquired several national natural science foundations of China and published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles.
